Daniel Smith military commission, 1831 May 7.

The commission was issued May 7, 1831, to Daniel Smith by Governor Thomas Metcalfe for the post of lieutenant in the 22nd Regiment, 6th Brigade, of the Kentucky Militia. The document was also signed by John James Crittenden as secretary of state.

Thomas Metcalfe served as Kentucky's tenth governor. He was elected to office in 1828 and was affiliated with the National Republican (later Whig) Party. Metcalfe was born March 20, 1780 in Fauquier County, Virginia. In 1804 his family moved to Fayette County, Kentucky, later settling in Nicholas County.
